101 DAYZ: 10 Weeks to Go!

I am 30 weeks today!

Throughout the pregnancy I have been keeping track of the baby's estimated development on a few good websites. The sites have been giving me information about what is happening to my body and what is going on with my widda wudda!

EXAMPLE: Today at 30 weeks my baby buzzard (D is the Old Buzzard)is starting to develop wrinkles on his widda brain (AKA Gettin
' Smart). He can now regulate his body temperature and even feel the sensation of pain! AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!

Even though I've been told it is odd...I also Google pictures of babies and ultrasounds to get an idea of what he looks like in there...

LOOK AT THIS!!!!

This is a picture that I got off of a site called My First Bub. This baby was born at 30 weeks!!!!

OH MY GOD!!

I imagine that this what size X Man is every time I feel him move around. OH MAN OH MAN!

That is a REAL LIFE BABY! I'm having a REAL LIFE BABY! This is sooooooooooo Crazy!!

Confession Number One

Having recently decided to use  my energy only to do good in the world I've been taking a few trips down memory lane.  I've been thinking about all the insane/not good "stuff" I've done.  So much so that I've decided to confess some of the "stuff" on the SHITTY FAB pages.

I can't believe the insanity with which I used to operate.

If any of my confessions pertain to you- please take the post as an indirect apology.  I 'll give you one in person the next time I see you... that's if you know you should get one.

I am ashamed of these true stories.  There is no excuse for horrible behavior but real human action taken in extreme moments of rage, love, pain, happiness and whatever other feelings you can think of can be forgiven right?  I mean the beauty of becoming an adult is that somewhere along the path you figure out how to manage your feelings, organize them and learn from them without committing crimes or dangerous acts that you can never undo.

That said, the confession I'm about to share is pretty awful so please brace yourself and please, please, please - don't judge me.

THE CONFESSION

My friend and I had been having issues with another set of friends.  We pretended to like them and they pretended to like us but we all knew the real deal.  One day my friend and I were in close proximity to one of the other girl's personal belongings and we spotted a journal.

We went back and forth about whether or not we should read it.

We decided to read it.

We laughed and laughed about some of her most personal feelings and thoughts.  I remember snorting and having to catch my breath because we were laughing so hard. Around the fifth or sixth page all laughter stopped.  On this neatly written page that had hearts doodled in the margin she was going on and on about how my friend was a bitch and on and on about how fat and ugly I was.

I couldn't believe it.  She was journaling about me.  Calling me fat and ugly.  At the time I had serious issues about every inch of my body and the way I looked.  She hit me where it hurt most and all I saw was rage.

Without thought, like a zombie I walked right to her room, jumped on her bed, pulled my pants down and urinated.  I jumped off of the bed spit in the urine, went and got a spoon, stirred it, blotted the area so that it would dry undetected and I could go to sleep that night knowing she was laying in my fat ugly piss.

I knew it was wrong, but I wasn't thinking with clarity.  I was thinking with hurt and anger and rage and  the tears that I couldn't allow to fall.

I shouldn't have been reading her journal in the first place and I shouldn't have urinated in her bed and I shouldn't have spit in the urine and I shouldn't have let her sleep in that bed...  We didn't even have a concrete reason for not liking each other.  It was just a thing to do I suppose.

It should have never gotten to that point.  We should have been friends or cordially decided that we were not meant to connect and kept it pushing but  that's not how it happened.  Instead she journaled about me and I invaded her privacy and urinated on her bed...  I don't quite remember but I bet at one point we were going to be friends and one of us probably misinterpreted something the other did or said and so we started down the road toward journaling and piss...

Things look so different from the adult side.

101 Dayz: Baby Kicks

Due dates being what they are...estimates...this little wudda wudda could come sooner than 81 days or later...but for sake of argument let's just say the doc is right...

81 days. WOW!

All I can think about today is how much of a miracle life is.

I've heard people talk about it so much, but now, I do believe that you can't explain it or really understand it until you experience it for yourself...

There's a life growing inside of me. I feel closer to God. I feel like I have found the meaning of life itself...the majesty of creation...all in baby kicks.

He just moves around in there. Not a care in the world. The most innocent little creature imaginable. All he has to do is practice sucking, kicking, grabbing.

He's done no wrong...hasn't even had a bad thought... he just kicks around. He hasn't had a deep breath of polluted air...except for that which I breathe...

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

The Truth

The post below, "The Truth," was written on February 22, 2011.  Sometimes I think before I post.  Sometimes I don't.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

 Caught off guard.  Again.

When he said it I started crying.

I didn't know why.  After the tears came anger and then hurt and then more tears and then I called my mom.

Before I called her I relived the key moments of our life together as friends.

Meeting in the guidance counselors office.  Becoming friends.  Him wanting more.  Growling on the phone.  Me saying no.  Him playing football.  Me a cheerleader.  Me and his family.  Him and my family.  The dramas.  College.  Him picking me up every time.  EVERY TIME, without fail.  Me saying yes. Law school.  Fail one at grad school auditions.  Fail two.  Finally getting in.  Rewriting papers.  Falling in love.  Being together.  Living together.  Loving.  Planning for the future.  Graduations.  The breakup.  The fights.  The yelling.  The not talking. The mistakes.  The undeniable connection.  The forgiving.  Resuming the friendship.  Moving forward...

I relived and then I called my mom.  She asked me, "Are you still in love with him?"   "No," I said without even thinking about it.  "That's not it ma.  I really can't explain it at all.  I wish that was it, because then I would understand.  I'm so happy that it's happening for him but why am I crying?  And the tears aren't happy tears.  And I am hurting in a strange way and I'm angry with him.  WHAT THE WHAT???"

Then I realized that I was panicking.   Panic mode means tears and anger.

Panicking because I thought this would officially be the end of our friendship and that scared me.

My mom told me I was jealous.  She's good.  That's the truth right there.  I'm jealous and that's what all these tears and anger and hurt amount to- JEALOUSY.

I am jealous because someone else will soon occupy my space.

I have always loved knowing that if I called TheEx would definitely come running.  No matter what, no questions asked.  Now I can't ask for that because it wouldn't be fair and it wouldn't be right.  Not only am I jealous, I am also mourning the loss of that place. That space that I occupied.  The one where I was the only person, besides his family members, that he would drop everything for.  Other women, other people have never mattered...

But now?  The new bundle of joy to come already occupies that space and he or she should.

When I was reliving the key moments of our friendship I realized how much rescuing there was.  On both of our parts but I was mainly thinking about how many times he rescued me.

The best rescue was when he let me go, the breakup.  It hurts to say that and it hurts to write this and it hurt when I called him a moment ago and came clean.

As I cried I said, "I'm jealous of your baby...I feel ridiculous for feeling this way...more ridiculous saying it out loud...and we never have to talk about this again."  As always he listened to my selfish, insane, stupidity but this time instead of being the logical curt voice of reason during my emotional tirade he simply said, "It's all right.  It will all be alright."  To that I said, "thank you."

My dear friend, I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!  I really am.   I can't wait to meet your son or daughter.  I know you know... but I had to write it out...you know the whole living out front thing.  You are perfect.  I love you, I love our friendship.  Today I learned that the beauty of our friendship lies in our/my ability to allow change.

The funny in it: If someone would have told me that tears and a weird sort of pain would be my reaction to this news I would have laughed in their face.  When I told my closest girlfriends TheEx is having a baby, they all asked, "Are you alright?"  How did they know to ask that?  TheEx even said, "I knew you would have some sort of huge reaction."  These people know me better than I know myself I suppose.

I'm learning, I am learning, I'm always learning and I'm happy to be taught...

Mother's Proof That God Is Bigger Than Real

When I feel lost whose arms, ears and heart walls do jump into?  My mom's of course.

What does mother always have for me?  A story to ease my mind and stop my body from quaking.  Sometimes she repeats  certain stories.  It depends on what I'm up in arms about.  It's like this woman is a minister, always ready with a sermon written just for me.

This weekend I got one of my favorite repeats.  I call this one Mother's Proof That God is Bigger Than Real.  I'm paraphrasing but it goes a little something like this:

Gwei(that's me), you are not lost.  You need to get down on your knees and pray.  God will hear you.  God will answer your prayers.  When I was a child and went blind for the first time in my life, how was my sight restored?  By the Grace of God.  When I came to this country and went blind for the second time in my life and the doctors said I would never see again, how was my sight restored?  By The Almighty God.  When I got in that car accident and they told me I would never walk again, they said my spinal cord was damaged beyond repair, that I was going to be in a wheel chair for the rest of my life, do you know what I did?  I prayed; I called out to God.  Have you ever had to wheel me around?  No...now get on your knees and let's pray.

Her sermons are short and sweet but the extra long prayers always have me wondering why I never bring knee pads and if everybody's mother prays as long as she does.  My mother is a light and her life would make a great movie or novel.  #ENDOFSTORY.

Eating the Cheeks AKA The Lisa Raye

Drinks

It's the third day of my no carb/ low carb week(don't ask).  As I walked out of the gym I wasn't thinking about all the sugary, starchy, sublime foods I'd like to eat.  I was thinking about all the slushy, sugar filled drinks I wanted to be drinking, with friends, on a NYC rooftop pretending I'm bigger than the world and that I flew to my new heights.

I was dreaming with my eyes open.  When I came back to reality I looked to the left and this is what was across the street.

File this under- GOD IS MY FAVORITE COMEDIAN.

At the moment I can't have beverages with alcohol- but maybe you can.  Follow this LINK for a great slushy drink recipe...mmm Chambord.

101 Dayz: OVERKill

Why do babies have so much stuff?

I'm entering the part of pregnancy where I have to "get things" that babies "need."

AND I DON'T BUY IT!

Back in the day babies slept in dresser drawers, were bathed in a sink or washtub and they turned out fine. So, why is it that in America people tell me things like, "Oh you have to get a changing table, it is very important that your baby gets accustomed to being changed in the same place every time."

WHAT A LOAD OF...BOLOGNA!

Toys, clothes, tubs, changing tables and pads, dohas, shrinky

who-has...whatever!

I think it's overkill.

If you give a kid a box he will turn it into a spaceship and have fun for hours, ya know.

When was the last time you saw a kid outside playing with a rock, or climbing a fence, or simply running in circles?

Kids have too much and it starts from birth, and I think it destroys imagination.

X Man will be bathed in the kitchen sink...changed on the sofa or my lap or bed- wherever I am...drink milk from my boobs...play with his dang feet...and love every minutes of it.

WERK!

Empowerment (Acting, Hair & My Mother)

I find myself without a legit agent (prayerfully that won’t last much longer).  How did that happen?  I have no idea but clearly it was supposed to happen because it did.

This means: I have to fight really hard to be seen for certain auditions, sometimes I am surprised by who calls me in,  sometimes I don’t get seen at all, I am currently negotiating a contract by myself and the amount of times I hear, “you’d be great in this role BUT,” seems to have increased 30 fold.

While this is all very challenging (by this I mean navigating the business without a legit agent) it has also helped me regain/reclaim a certain sense about myself and begin to redefine why I do what I do and what I want to bring into this seemingly saturated business.

It has taken me a while to stand up and say I know what I am doing.  I know how to learn what I don’t know and whether you reject or accept me doesn’t add to who I am, take away from who I am or what I have.

Theoretically I’ve always known this.  I grew up with my mother instilling that idea in me day after day on our long car rides.  To know it is one thing.  To truly believe it, to truly understand your power and the gifts you’ve been given is another thing.

It’s akin to hair.  I’ll clarify-  I grew up in a household where the relaxer was not it.  My mother always told me that I was beautiful just the way I was.  She always said that I didn't need chemicals to find my beauty or to make me beautiful.  She even cut all my hair off  when I snuck and got a relaxer without permission.  All of that and the first thing I did when I was of age was grab a relaxer kit…hmmm.

When I was in my second year of undergrad I realized my mom was right and at that point I wasn’t sure how to live in myself.  How to live without a relaxer- so one day I just stood in front of the mirror and cut my hair off.  I was so excited, and I liked what I saw.

I went to my friend’s house next door and her neighbor said, “OH MY GOD WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO YOUR HAIR!?!?”  Devastation set in.

I ran back to my apartment and stood in the mirror- CRYING.  What had I done?  My impulsive nature had failed me.  Why did I cut my hair off?  What was I going to do with this low afro?

After a few hours I came back to the mirror.  I decided I had to learn to love what I saw.  I decided that I had to understand my natural beauty.  It was going to be a journey, a crazy one but I decided to go forward.

A few years later I felt guilty because I wanted a relaxer again.  Did that mean I was giving in to society’s idea of what I should look like?  I asked my friend Robyne what she thought(because she's smart) and she asked, “Why did you go natural in the first place?”  I answered, “Because I needed to learn about my natural beauty and I needed to accept myself.”   She then asked, “Did you do that?”  Yes.  “Then you can do whatever you want to do with your hair.”

I didn’t relax my hair again until my long term relationship ended and I had a bout of momentary insanity.  Dying for a change not only did I relax the fro I had been picking out, twisting and growing for years but I cut my hair off completely and got a short sleek style, dyed jet black to make it pop.  I was happy for a moment.

That moment ended.  The truth was I wasn’t that person(the one who would rock a short sleek jet black relaxed cut) anymore and when I woke up the next morning and saw what I had done I thought I would die…But there is no going back- or is there?

Well I let that relaxer grow out a bit and then for the second time I chopped that bad boy off.  This time no devastation set in.  This time I looked in the mirror and said- “THERE SHE IS.”

I was so in myself, so grounded that I could see clearly.  I knew who I was in that moment and I knew who I was could change instantly.  It could change as quickly as my hair could/can and knowing that felt/feels great.  All of my hair history had come full circle and somehow it was directly related to where I was in my life.  My hair journey allowed me to see that I understand something/ some things...

I had to come to the understanding in my own time.  It didn’t matter how many times my mom told me I was beautiful the way I am or how many times she told me I was powerful beyond belief, that I am a child of God born with gifts that He decided I should have,  that no harm can come to me because I am protected…It didn’t matter.  I had to figure out how to believe the lessons I was being taught.

I say it didn’t matter but it did. It only didn’t matter in relation to time.  I didn’t get it instantly…   I know it’s because I was hearing those words of wisdom all of my life that led to my belief in them now.  I know that hearing those teachings is how I got to where I am today.  My mother and other people like her, all my teachers were/are secretly empowering me at all times to stand up and say and do whatever it is I needed/need to do and say…

At the moment, without an agent I've found I can be my own agent...  I was forced to find out.  Just like my impulsive hair choices forced me to understand that I understand.

What’s the point of all this?

Well...  Everyone comes to understand their truth, their power, their gifts, their beauty in their own time and today I wonder how I can help others shorten the amount of time it takes to get there.  I’m acknowledging all the help I’ve had and continue to receive and wanting to do the same for others.

That’s all.

"It isn't until you come to a spiritual understanding of who you are - not necessarily a religious feeling, but deep down, the spirit within - that you can begin to take control."  -Oprah Winfrey

 -------------

This was going to be a post that went under our acting tab but somewhere at the top I got off track, forgot what acting specific thing I originally wanted to say and landed on all of this…  STILL LIVING OUT FRONT!

P.S. Whether your hair is natural or processed matters not!

101 DAYZ: Tax Time

So all I can think about today is the stress of preparing my tax stuff to take to the accountant.

I don't want to have to think about being with child and doing taxes.

UNTIL...

I realized that next year, for once, I can get money back because of my little X Man!

YEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

Why didn't I have a child earlier?
