Alright... I went to school and spent 7 years in college to study the craft of acting. It was amaze!!!
I am what folks call a classically trained actress...WERK!
Now... when art, craft, training, and skill, dabble around in the realm of commercialism and capitalism, PROBLEMS ARISE!
I love the work involved in breathing life into the artfully crafted written words of a playwright. I love the research, the soul searching, the rehearsal process, the exchange of energies between performer and audience, The learning process and development that happens during the run of a show. It is PURE CRACK!
UNFORTUNATELY...This amazingness doesn't always lead to the big bucks.
So...I do audition for and book big TV and film gigs. It is all a part of this business. THE ART and THE MONEY MAKING!
HERE is where I get MAD!
WHY does TV AND FILM insist on making ACTORS do SOFT CORE PORN...under the guise of ART and only for the sake of PUSHING THE ENVELOPE!
I would have saved my money and made a whole heap of different choices in my life, if my only goal was to DRY F@%*# for the world to see. I certainly would not have student loans to pay back right now!!!
Why do the scenes from True Blood (don't get me wrong I love the show...just don't like certain things...like THIS ISSUE) look like I am watching Cinemax After Dark or something?
I AM NOT A PRUDE! I WATCH PORN!! I LIKE PORN!! I HAVE INTERNET ACCESS!!
AND I AM NOT AGAINST A FIERCE, MEANINGFUL LOVE SCENE done by ACTORS in a scene or two!
BUT PORN... should be PERFORMED by PORN STARS... NOT ACTORS!!!!
And the scenes nowadays are no longer "actor friendly love scenes"...They are ACTUALLY in REAL LIFE ... exactly the same as the ones that come on HBO and Cinemax(after hours)- that soft porn stuff...I KNOW because I have watched them!
Why I am mad is because the industry will continue to go further and further and it will become just as expected as women showing boobs! Remember when boob showing was taboo?
And what's next?
Actually seeing close ups of Halle Berry being penetrated by homeboy from Monster's Ball? IS THAT WHAT WE WANT?
Come on people do we really need to see it ALL...All the time?
Did Sookie and Bill REALLY have to be in THAT position, asshole naked, for that long? Did we not get the point?
I just miss the respect for the artistry and beauty of acting. The respect for those who make us cry, laugh, love, want to be better people, give us someone to relate to through their characters, entertain and teach us. Those who, throughout time, have illuminated the human condition and helped to make many mundane lives bright and meaningful.
QUESTION: What makes an actor doing soft core porn in a movie any different from the folks on Co-Ed Confidential?
Training?
...I think not!

Metch, as you know, I wrote about this same topic in relation to True Blood on my blog this week.
My husband and I have been really "appreciative" of the sex scenes on that show. What can I say, after 10+ years, a little extra inspiration doesn't hurt.
But all joking aside, I can see how as an actress the continual pushing of the envelope in this area could be very frustrating.
In all honesty though, it's the emotion that the actors in the show bring to those scenes that make them so great. We love those characters and connect with them (Team Eric, woot! woot!) And when those big scenes come up, I don't find the nudity gratuitous. I think it adds an authenticity to the scenes.

Hey Saucy B! Thanks for commenting! I appreciate that True Blood may be making some relationships a little more Saucy... I just think they should hire porn stars to do it... not actors. Or tone them down some... hire actors to do their jobs, like filling the roles with depth of character as you mentioned, and leave the porn to the pros...
